Be the driving force behind a young person’s success

With coronavirus seriously impacting on its ability to help young people in the worlds of the arts and sport, The Travers Foundation have taken another route to raising funds.

A Land Rover driving experience is up for grabs through an online raffle as the Northamptonshire-based charity begins making plans to kickstart its efforts in preparation for 2021.

Because of the devastating effects lockdown has had on sporting events and arts venues this year, the organisation has closed 2020 applications – but has launched an online appeal in the hope of being ready to step up again as the situation begins to return to normal.

The Travers Foundation is a volunteer-run charity that provides financial support to local 13 to 30-year-olds to help them realise their dreams in sport, music and the arts. The talents of teams, groups and individuals in Northamptonshire, Rutland and Leicestershire are nurtured with the help of grants.

Typically, support is available for coaching and professional support for those in sports or the arts; studio support for the performing arts; competition support to cover entry fees and travel and accommodation expenses and performance support to help cover planning costs, auditions and rehearsals.

Terry Forsey, Chairman of The Travers Foundation, said: “The coronavirus pandemic and lockdown hit the world of sport and the arts very hard indeed, and it also hit the charity sector very hard.

“Because venues are closed and events are cancelled, we can’t help any more young people this year, but we are keen to get the ball rolling again to make sure we’re there for them when applications reopen. The problem is, arranging fundraising events is no longer straightforward, so an online raffle seemed a logical solution.”

The charity has, therefore, launched an online raffle, selling tickets for £1 each with the lucky ticket winning a Half Day Land Rover Experience for up to three people at the East of England off-road centre in Rockingham, Northamptonshire.
