HAVE DRUMS, WILL TRAVEL – FIND OUT ABOUT MARDI GRAS, MARKET HARBOROUGH STYLE!

Picture this - you're a successful drumming group, gigging regularly and bringing the sound of samba to street fairs, carnivals and events to the enjoyment of hundreds of people across the area.

But you've got a problem - you desperately need new members for the 18-30 age bracket.  How do you attract them?

This was the quandary faced by the Great Bowden Recital Trust, a registered music charity based in Market Harborough.  A non-audition, community-based welcome-everyone organisation, they have nine choirs and ensembles with over 300 members from 5 years old to 76 years young.

They contacted local charity The Travers Foundation for help.  The Travers Foundation helps 13 to 30 year olds living in Northamptonshire, Rutland or Leicestershire improve their skills in sports, the creative arts and the performing arts.

Between the two organisations, they decided that a good way to attract new members was to have some sign-writing on the newly purchased carnival drums trailer which is a highly visible presence at all events they attend.

The Travers Foundation have funded this cost, and the end result can be seen in the accompanying photo.

Terry Forsey of The Travers Foundation said:
"We were delighted to be able to fund the sign-writing to advertise the Great Bowden Recital Trust, and we hope that this organisation continues to thrive and entertain people throughout the area for a very long time to come."

Andrew Cartwright from the Great Bowden Recital Trust added: "When people are enjoying the wonderful music at events, they will see the trailer with its contact details, can find out more and hopefully come and join us!"
