Nobody will forget the amazing impact the Olympics had on us all. The spectacular gold by sport's personality Bradley Wiggins at Hampton Court Jessica Ennis, Mo Farah and Greg Rutherford winning three gold medals in the Olympic stadium on Super Saturday adding to the triumphs of the many rowers and cyclists earlier to make it ten golds in the day.
The sports legacy was outstanding. Let's not forget the impact British musicians and performers also had on the opening and closing ceremonies.
These are our elite performers. They have worked hard to achieve their goals and are an inspiration to every aspiring up and coming performer.
While these Olympians are professionals it takes dedication, commitment and financial resources to reach the top. Local youngsters too often only have family and friends to support them.
This has about to changed with the launch of a new local charity, The Travers Foundation, supporting Northamptonshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.
Charity Chairman, Terry Forsey, says "The Travers Foundation has been formed to provide financial support for local 18-30 year olds improve their proficiency in the fields of sport and the arts. We will be raising money locally and inviting applications for support."
Corby's William Sharman, Former British 100m hurdler Champion and Charity Trustee, added 'We all acquire our basic skills at our school, club or local association. These institutions provide an excellent foundation for our skills. As our ability improves and ambition grows we often need additional qualified coaching, mentoring or teaching to help improve our performance.'
Local impresario and Royal Opera Baritone, Martin McEvoy went on 'As a Trustee, my aim is to work closely with our applicants to agree a "Development Plan" and identify the funding necessary to help them reach their goals.'
Terry Forsey said 'We try to keep our application process simple, it consists of five simple questions and these can be found on our website at www.travers-foundation.org.uk'
The Travers Foundation is also seeking local donations to support these elite performers. All contributions are welcome and can be made through the website.
If anyone would like to chat to The Travers Foundation you can contact them at www.travers-foundation.org.uk or call Terry Forsey at 01536-771440.
