THE TRAVERS FOUNDATION IS CORBY MAYOR'S CHOSEN CHARITY FOR 2016/17
The Travers Foundation is delighted to announce that it has been selected by Corby's new Mayor Councillor Julie Riley to be one of her chosen charities for her 2016/17 term of office.
The Mayor has decided her charity theme for this year is 'Children Are Our Future', and has chosen to support The Travers Foundation, a Northamptonshire-based charity which helps 13 to 30 year olds living in Northamptonshire, Rutland or Leicestershire improve their skills in sports, the creative and the performing arts.
The Travers Foundation, founded in 2012 by local businessman Terry Forsey, has given much needed financial support to many youngsters from the Corby borough.
These include Olympic athlete Lucy Hatton, Corby Athletics' rising star long-distance runner Isaac Akers, The Corby Cube Core Dancers and Actors, local filmmaker Kayleigh O'Connor, singer and actress Meg Lyons, golfer Ryan Evans, tennis player Joe Tyler, and singers Vicki-Louise Sherwin, Charlie Botting and Kara Hamer.
Olympic athlete William Sharman is a trustee of the charity, alongside local Opera impresario Martin McEvoy, Accountant Julie Ward and Lawyer Gary Tait.
Terry Forsey, Chairman of the Travers Foundation, said:
"We at the Travers Foundation are hugely honoured that Madam Mayor, Cllr Julie Riley, has chosen us as a charity that she will support during her year-long term as Mayor of Corby.
"To reach the peak of your profession in sport, the creative or performing arts these days, you need to have lots of funding as well as lots of talent. Not every family can offer this financial commitment, so this is where charities such as ours can assist youngsters from all backgrounds fulfil their dreams.
"Thanks to Cllr Riley and the backing she is giving our charity, more young people will be able to access funds to help them achieve their potential."
