SUCCESS FOR SPORTS STARS SUPPORTED BY LOCAL CHARITY
It's lucky number 12 for the young athletes helped by local charity The Travers Foundation, with a dozen top place awards achieved by them in 2015.
The Travers Foundation - which helps 13 to 30 year olds living in Northamptonshire, Rutland or Leicestershire improve their skills in sports, as well as the creative arts and the performing arts - has seen many of its youngsters achieve top medals and have continued success in their chosen fields.
Hurdler Lucy Hatton, 20, started the medal haul in February with a Silver in the British Indoor Championships, swiftly followed in March with another Silver at the European Indoor Championships in Prague. See also Lucy's Road to Rio video
Hot on her heels came basketball player Chris Southwell, 22 from Oakham, who achieved Gold with Team GB at the Special Olympics in LA.
Joe Watkins, 17 from Northampton, is a champion kickboxer who won a Silver medal at the WAKO (World Association of Kickboxing Organisations) European Championships in Spain, and also had wins in the -69kg category at the WAKO Junior Euro Cup in Birmingham.
His cousin Tom Symons, 13, a kickboxer and also from Northampton, won a Gold and two Silvers at the WAKO Junior Euro Cup in Birmingham.
Tennis player Joe Tyler, aged 16 from Corby, won doubles tournaments in Finland, Croatia and Macedonia. Joe also reached the semi-final in the Singles Nike Junior International Tournament in Edinburgh.
Terry Forsey of The Travers Foundation said:
