LOCAL YOUNG FILMMAKER ASSISTED BY THE TRAVERS FOUNDATION

30/11/2015

EQ: A FILM ABOUT EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE

Picture
Kayleigh O'Connor, aged 23 from Gretton and a former pupil at Uppingham Community College, is a name to watch for the future.

This very talented local girl has not only just graduated from studying a Masters degree at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, but she's also directed her first film.

'EQ:  A Film About Emotional Intelligence' is a sci-fi movie which explores the decline of Emotional Intelligence in a fictional 2020 London.  The story features Olivia, a chemical engineer who has developed a drug to cure Emotional Intelligence, and Georgia, a volunteer who trials the first supply of the drug and it explores how this impacts on her relationships.

To get her project off the ground and make her creative vision a reality, Kayleigh needed help with funding and turned to The Travers Foundation for assistance.

Northamptonshire-based charity The Travers Foundation helps 13 to 30 year olds living in Northamptonshire, Rutland or Leicestershire improve their skills in sports, the creative arts and the performing arts.

Kayleigh says:

"Without the support of The Travers Foundation I could not have made the film, so I'm incredibly grateful to them for all the assistance they have given me.

"I feel really lucky to have been given this opportunity.  I never thought that my questions on life, and on how we interact with each other, would lead to the knowledge and experience that I have gained during the process of seeing my ideas come to life.

"Emotional intelligence is a growing topic - it is in decline, and studies are being done on how we can improve our EQ.  It is an intriguing subject, and I hope the film is thought provoking."

Kayleigh is also pursuing a career in front of the cameras, and has had a variety of roles including E4's Made in Chelsea, and Birthcloud which is being shown at the Monaco International Film Festival (Angel Film Awards) in December 2015.
