THE TRAVERS FOUNDATION SPONSORS YOUNGSTER FROM NORTHAMPTON
Tom Symons is a 14-year old kickboxer from Northampton.
He and his cousin Joe Watkins (17), travel around the UK and abroad competing in competitions. Tom approached The Travers Foundation for sponsorship to help with the costs of travel to training and events, and The Travers Foundation were happy to help.
The Travers Foundation helps 13 to 30 year olds living in Northamptonshire, Rutland or Leicestershire improve their skills in sports, the creative arts and the performing arts.
2015 was a very busy and successful year for Tom. In November, Tom took first place in light con and points in the Northants Open competition.
He then took part in WAKO Squad Training on 8th November, training with the WAKO adults, learning much from the more experienced fighters.
The CIMAC Windsor event on 15th November saw Tom achieve Gold in the -63kg light con and -54kg light con, as well as Silver in -63kg points and Bronze in -54kg points.
The ISKA British Championships on 22nd November was Tom's final tournament of the year, and he retained his British title in the -60kg light con, beating a friend and teammate in the final to take home the Gold. In the -60kg points, he won Silver, and in the -68kg weight category he won Bronze.
Terry Forsey of the Travers Foundation said:
"Tom's had a magnificent year of competition success. He works and trains really hard, and we are delighted to be able to assist him to achieve his dreams of being a champion."
