American-style marching band Liberty Drum Corps had a very successful 2016 and have similar plans for 2017. The group's numbers have grown with over 40 young people taking part in shows and competitions throughout the country.
The group receives funding for coaching and competition expenses from local charity The Travers Foundation.
The Travers Foundation is a Northamptonshire-based, volunteer-led charity which helps 13 to 30 year olds living in Northamptonshire, Rutland or Leicestershire improve their skills in sports, the creative arts and the performing arts.
Based in Northampton, Liberty Drum Corps are a performing arts ensemble, with members aged between nine and 21.
In 2016 they supported a number of local events including:
They have also travelled across the UK representing Northamptonshire in competitions run by the British Youth Band Association (BYBA) and Drum Corps UK.
Liberty Drum Corps took fourth place in the BYBA Premier Division in the season-long league competition, and qualified for the Open Class finals of the DCUK championships - the only band comprised entirely of young people to do so.
They also entered the Northampton Festival of Music and Performing Arts for the first time and came top in the orchestras and bands section.

"Thank you to the Travers Foundation for the support you have given Liberty. It has made an enormous difference to our work with young people in 2016.
"We are really looking forward to performing at the Showcase (Corby Cube, 4th March) and hope we may continue our relationship so more young people can achieve their potential and have fun along the way."

- Remembrance Sunday services and parades in Daventry and Nether Heyford;
- the Northampton stage of the UK women's bike race;
- the Wellingborough International Waendal Walk;
- Christmas parades in Daventry and Weston Favell;
- Singha Sevens competition at Northampton Saints;
- Northampton's Diwali parade;
- The Gunpowder Plot at Boughton House;
- a workshop at The Cube in Corby.
