THE TRAVERS FOUNDATION SPONSORS KICKBOXER FROM NORTHAMPTON
Tom Symons is a 13-year old kickboxer from Northampton.
He and his cousin Joe Watkins (16), travel around the UK and abroad competing in competitions. Tom has been training for four years and is a brown belt in karate.
Tom approached The Travers Foundation for sponsorship to help with the costs of travel to training and events, and The Travers Foundation were happy to help.
The Travers Foundation helps 13 to 30 year olds living in Northamptonshire, Rutland or Leicestershire improve their skills in sports, the creative arts and the performing arts.
So far, 2015 has been a busy year for Tom. He competed in the KWON tournament in Birmingham, and at the Watford Open Nationals where he gained the second place trophy in the continuous fighting category.
He also went to the Athens Challenge in Greece where he made it through to the semi-finals in his weight category, and competed in the WMO (World Martial Arts Organisation) tournament with some strong competitors and a different style of fighting and refereeing.
Terry Forsey of the Travers Foundation said:
"We are very happy to be able to offer financial support to Tom and his cousin Joe who are training very hard to be kickboxers and represent Great Britain in competitions.
"As we all know, travel is very expensive, and we are delighted to be able to help the lads achieve their dreams of being champions."
