TENNIS STAR THANKS TRAVERS FOUNDATION FOR HELPING HIM ACHIEVE 2015 SUCCESS IN ITF EUROPEAN TOURNAMENTS
Joe Tyler, aged 16 from Corby, has had a great 2015 season playing tennis on the European circuit.
Joe has won Doubles tennis tournaments in Finland, Croatia and Macedonia with his tennis partner Will Davies from Norfolk.
Joe also reached a Singles semi-final in the Nike Junior International Tournament in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Joe receives funding to help with his competition expenses for such tennis events from Northamptonshire-based charity The Travers Foundation. The Travers Foundation helps 13-30 year olds living in Northamptonshire, Rutland or Leicestershire improve their skills in sports, the creative arts and the performing arts.
To date Joe has received £1,500 in funding, and he said:
“I am very grateful for the support The Travers Foundation has given me. This help means a great deal to me and allows me to focus on the tournaments knowing that some of the travel costs and other competition expenses have been kindly provided by The Travers Foundation.”
Joe finished the summer season ranked No.1 in Northamptonshire at U16 and U18, and was No.7 in GB at U16, No.37 at U18 and No.117 in the Open (Men’s) Category.
Corby Indoor Tennis Centre has been Joe’s main training base for the last 8 years , under professional LTA performance coach Craig Haworth.
Joe is now attending the Sixth Form at Culford School for which he has received a scholarship due to his tennis achievements. Joe is hoping to secure a wild card in order to compete at Junior Wimbledon 2016. He will continue playing in ITF( International Tennis Federation) tournaments and will be competing in two tournaments in Finland in October 2015. He will also compete in the Aegon British Tour series.
