YOUNG TENNIS STAR SUPPORTED BY THE TRAVERS FOUNDATION
Joe Tyler, aged 17 from Corby, has won his first British Tour event in Nottingham.
He had a string of successes which saw him through to the final against Benjamin Clark, whom he beat 6-2, 1-6, 6-1 in the final.
This means he achieves a wild card into the qualifying tournament of a Men's 10k Futures event.
Joe receives funding to help with his competition expenses from Northamptonshire-based charity The Travers Foundation. The Travers Foundation helps 13 to 30 year olds living in Northamptonshire, Rutland or Leicestershire improve their skills in sports, the creative arts and the performing arts.
To date Joe has received over £1500 in funding, and he said:
"I am very grateful for the support The Travers Foundation has given me and my family. This help means that I can concentrate on my training and focus on the tournaments instead of worrying about paying for travel and other competition expenses."
Terry Forsey, Chairman of the Travers Foundation, said:
"We are so pleased that Joe won this major tournament in Nottingham. He is currently competing at ITF level in Portugal, and we wish him continued success."
